WALLA WALLA — After committing seven errors in a 12-8 loss to Colton to open a nonleague doubleheader, the DeSales softball team rebounded to take an 8-4 win in the night cap on Monday.
Irish pitcher Kaylee Brown stifled the Colton hitters in game two, as she tossed a three-hit complete game while striking out eight.
“Kaylee had them off balance,” DeSales coach Russ Vera said. “They hadn’t seen someone that can throw a change up like she can. She pitched real well.”
The offense also chipped in five runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Claire Conley came up with a three-run triple that scored Brown, Teresa Acock and Ashlynn Lyons.
Conley and Lyons led the Irish offense in game one, as the DeSales duo combined for seven hits. Lyons also clubbed a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth that tied the game at eight.
But Colton rallied in the top of the seventh for four runs, which pushed the game out of reach.
“We committed an error in the seventh and kind of let them back in the game and we couldn’t come back,” Vera said. “I was impressed with our hitting. It was just our defense — it just got lackadaisical a bit.”
DeSales (7-2 overall, 4-0 in Southeast 2B) travels to face Mac-Hi at 5:30 p.m. today.
