MILTON-FREEWATER — McLoughlin High’s boys tennis team defeated Pendleton here Monday, 5-4.
The Pioneers were missing their top two singles players, so teammates had to play up in their places.
Juan Garcia downed Buckaroo Gareth Haug, 8-6, at No. 1 singles, with Mac-Hi’s Miguel Garcia downing Jeremy Cochrane, 8-5.
In doubles play, Rafael Villagomez and Leon Enskat teamed up for an easy 8-0 win over Pendleton’s Ryan Skeen and Joey Bliss, Ivan Uribe and Zak Lyon handed Lincoln Johnson and Daniel Medina an 8-4 defeat, and Alex Alvarez and Ulises Zaragoza rounded out the Mac-Hi victories with an 8-1 win over Nick Jennings and Peter Wallace.
“The Mac-Hi boys tennis team had a great win over Pendleton Monday afternoon,” Pioneers coach Michelle Snyder said. “Mac-Hi’s doubles are a strong team who get challenged by each other week in and week out and making themselves better.
“All the boys fought hard and gave great effort.”
Mac-Hi heads to Sandy, Ore., for matches Friday and Saturday.
