RICHLAND — Walla Walla High School’s boys golfers came in third place at the third Mid-Columbia Conference Pod match at Horn Rapids on Monday.
Richland carded a team score of 304, followed by Hanford 316, Wa-Hi 339, Southridge 350, Kennewick 356, Chiawana 357, Kamiakin 359 and Pasco 500.
Hanford’s Eric Dahl and Richland’s Drew McCullough tied for medalist honors with 71s.
The Blue Devils’ Parker Dressler carded a 77 to tie with Richland’s Hunter Ashby for sixth place.
Nate Towner turned in an 84 for the Blue Devils, with Troy Aguilar coming in at 88 and Tyler Morrison a 90.
“We tied our best team score of the year on a harder golf course,” Wa-Hi coach Jeff Neher said. “This was also our best team finish in a tournament. Looking at the stats, the low four counting scores had 12 double bogies and three triple bogies. Avoiding big numbers has been something we have talked about all year long and we are getting better at it.
“Shooting in the 320s is a very realistic score for us if we can stay away from the big numbers,” he said. “Parker (Dressler) played a very solid round of golf, his best round playing for Wa-Hi by six shots. Tyler Morrison got off to a rough start but finished very strong playing his last three or four holes even par.
“Nate (Towner) is moving in the right direction, he is very close to shooting in the 70s on a consistent basis,” Neher said. “Troy (Aguilar) had one hole that really hurt him, other than that he played a very nice round of golf.”
Ely Kimball carded a non-counting 95 for the Blue Devils, with Chirs Yaw coming in at 104.
Wa-Hi heads to the fourth MCC Pod match at Canyon Lakes on April 30.
“All the guys are playing better as the season is progressing,” Neher said. “We are in fourth place in the league right now, just one point behind third place. We are peaking at the right time looking to continue our good play into our last league matches and the district tournament.”
