RICHLAND — Richland’s boys tennis team won a 5-2 Mid-Columbia Conference decision over visiting Walla Walla High here Tuesday.
Micah Rambo pulled out the lone Blue Devils singles victory, a 6-1, 6-0 win over Callum Pe at No. 3.
In doubles play, Wa-Hi’s Gerrod Peck and Colton Norsworthy teamed up for a 6-4, 7-6(7-4) victory over Brian Talbot and Colton Sowers.
“We always look forward to the challenge of playing Richland,” Wa-Hi coach Bryan Eggart said. “We know that this match will be highly competitive and will produce some great tennis, and this year was no different. We knew this was going to be a hard match to win, with Richland being the defending league champions.
“Our guys competed very well in this 5-2 loss,” he said. “I was very excited about the two wins we got. Colton and Gerrod pulled out a great win at the No. 2 doubles position. They communicated very well and played tough during critical points.
“Micah Rambo had a dominate performance at No. 3 singles,” Eggart said. “He definitely controlled the pace of play in this match. We had a couple of three-set matches I felt like could have gone either way. You have got to give credit to the Bombers. They are a very tough tennis program and were able to close out close matches better than we did today.”
