Touchet pitcher Schaeffer leads Indians to 5-1 softball win over Dayton

TOUCHET — Touchet pitcher Harlie Schaeffer stifled the Dayton softball team, as the Indians rolled, 5-1, on Tuesday.

Schaeffer surrendered just five hits and struck out six in a complete-game win.

“She pitched a great game,” Touchet coach Gary Dorman said. “We were real happy to see her come through yesterday.”

Schaeffer also collected two hits and a pair of RBIs, as she brought in Cierra Jo McKeown with a single in the first inning, before slugging an RBI double in the fifth. McKeown scored a pair of runs to go with her two hits.

“She’s a slap hitter and her job is to get on base,” Dorman said of his leadoff hitter McKeown. “She got on two of her three times up and she comes around to score.”

The Indians finished with 10 hits, but Dorman said Touchet could have added more.

Touchet (5-6 overall, 3-1 in Southeast 1B) travels to face Weston-McEwen tomorrow.
