Oregon East Symphony to perform ‘Scheherazade’ Saturday


PENDLETON — The Oregon East Symphony will present “Scheherazade” and performances by four young soloists at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Vert Auditorium, 480 S.W. Dorion St.

Four soloists who recently auditioned with the orchestra will perform, followed by the orchestra playing Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. Dr. Beau Benson will conduct.

Sidney Tovey, violinist, will perform the Bach Violin Concerto in A Minor — Allegro, by Johann Sebastian Bach. Tovey is an eighth grader at Armand Larvie Middle School in Hermiston.

Sonja Carlson, a senior at Pendleton High School, will perform George Frideric Handal’s “Oh, Had I Jubal’s Lyre” from “Joshua.”

Joanna Wolotira, violinist, is a junior attending Pendleton High School and Blue Mountain Community College. Wolotira will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Summer Movement — Allegro, from “The Four Seasons.”

She currently plays with Oregon East Symphony in the Raising the Bar program.

Kyli Humphreys, a senior at Walla Walla High School, will perform “Horn Concerto Op. 8,” First Movement, by Franz Strauss.

Humphreys has studied the French horn for 7 years. She plays with the Walla Walla Symphony, Walla Walla University Wind Symphony and Oregon East Symphony.

A reception for the young artists will be held following the concert.
