PORTLAND — DeSales grad and Saint Martin’s University men’s freshman golfer Ryan Baumgart was named first-team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Thursday by the conference.
Baumgart tied for second place at the GNAC Championships as he had rounds of 73-73-74 in less-than-ideal conditions. It was Baumgart’s first top-five finish of the season and his second top-10 finish in his first year with the Saints.
He put together rounds of 72, 76 and 72 in the fall earning a sixth-place finish at the Dennis Rose Invite.
Saint Martin’s coach Kevin Bishop, now in his sixth season as head coach for the Saints, was named Co-GNAC men’s golf Coach of the Year, along with Northwest Nazarene’s Craig Stensgard.
Bishop guided SMU to a sudden-death playoff for the GNAC Championship on Tuesday after the Saints came from behind to force a playoff with eventual champion NNU.
