Pioneers split with Tigers in baseball

MILTON-FREEWATER — The McLoughlin High School baseball team (6-7 overall) split with Ontario here Saturday, winning 6-5 and losing 12-6, in a pair of Greater Oregon League games.

Hunter Yensen tossed a complete game in the opener, as he struck out nine and walked four.

Starter Jacob Chaney took the loss in the night cap, as he finished with five strikeouts and three walks. He was charged with six runs in the first inning, but five of those were unearned on four Pioneer errors.

“Hunter did a good job pitching in that first game. He had good defensive support behind him,” Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. “If Jacob (Chaney) had the same defensive support, you never know, we might have swept today.”

Mac-Hi committed six errors in game two behind Chaney.

The Pioneers travel to Goldendale, Wash. for two games on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
