KENNEWICK — Douglas Rowley and Connor Christensen, Wa-Hi’s top two singles players, had to work for their victories here Tuesday in a Mid-Columbia Conference boys tennis match against Kamiakin.
After that, it was smooth sailing for the Blue Devils as they downed the Braves 7-0 in near-perfect playing conditions on the Kamiakin courts.
Rowley, playing No. 1 singles for Wa-Hi, lost the first set to Kamiakin’s Matt Inmann 6-2, but bounced back to claim the second and third sets, and the match, 6-1, 6-2.
It was a similar scenario for Christensen at No. 2 singles, as he dropped the first set to the Braves’ Ben Welch 6-2, but recovered nicely by winning the second set 7-6 and the third 6-3.
Blue Devils Micah Rambo and Cole Woelfle then cleaned up singles, each winning 6-0, 6-0.
And in doubles, the Wa-Hi duos of Nick Fuller-Malcolm Gabbard, Gerrod Peck-Eric Klicker and Erik Dohe-Noble Coleman each won in straight sets to finish off the sweep.
