KENNEWICK — Kamiakin defeated Wa-Hi 6-1 here Tuesday in a girls Mid-Columbia Conference tennis match.
Mari Arceo and Jaime Quaresma at first doubles provided Wa-Hi with its lone point, outlasting the Kamiakin duo of Rachel Young and Courtney Hall 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. The Blue Devils’ Hailey Lewis at fourth singles extended her match to three sets before losing to Kylee Tate 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The Braves’ Ashylnn Tate claimed first singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Wa-Hi’s Lexi Swenson.
“There were times when the girls played some really good tennis,” Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. “The problem was putting it all together to finish off games. The match score doesn’t show it, but the girls played some great points to try and stay in some tough games.
“I am very proud of how the girls continued to battle even when things were not going their way — it showed a lot of character.”
Peck was especially pleased with his doubles duo of Arceo and Quaresma.
“Mari and Jaime struggled in the second set, but found their rhythm in the third set to run off 6 games in a row,” Peck said. “It was great to see them work together and cover the court well as we approach district play.”
