Riverside hands Waitsburg-Prescott loss

PRESCOTT — Four Riverside pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter here Tuesday as the Pirates defeated Waitsburg-Prescott 8-4 in a non-league prep baseball game.

Arik Corpus started on the hill for Riverside and worked the first five innings before giving way to Wayne Killian in the sixth inning. Gavin Roberts and Jose Salgado were both summoned from the bullpen in the seventh inning as W-P scored four times without the benefit of a hit.

The Pirates managed just five hits against W-P hurlers Chance Leroue and Devin Acevedo, the latter coming on in the fifth inning. However, both pitchers struggled with their control, according to W-P coach Dustin Snedigar.

“Our pitchers issued 10 walks and hit three batters,” Snedigar said.

Waitsburg-Prescott dropped to 6-7 on the season. W-P is 3-2 in Southeast 2B District play going into a 4 p.m. game today at Garfield-Palouse. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
