Letter - Letter on Tom Cooper’s bad knee was disgusting

In reply to the Letter to the Editor, “Can Tom Cooper be sheriff with bad knee?” in the Aug. 10 edition.

I have never been quite as disgusted by such slanted and malicious language as written by Robert Phillips, to suggest that Tom Cooper is a good ol’ boy who is knowingly running for a job he cannot handle.

In consideration of the wonderful background this man has performed in the law enforcement profession and his dedication to our community, John Turner and his cohorts show they are the ones with no ethics.

Tom Cooper did a fine job of explaining himself and his reasons for not working light duty.

Mr. Phillips’ letter to the editor is a typical smear tactic, a ploy most of us cannot stand. This is stooping to the fear factor often used by politicians — don’t buy into it.

Added to the bad knee, Phillips alluded to Mr. Cooper’s bar habits, probably trying to make him out a drunkard. Please remember, John Turner was on the Ash Hollow Winery board for a number of years, so it is assumed he also enjoyed a few good drinks.

It is below the dignity of a virtuous civil servant to have a sheriff’s supporter write such an incendiary letter to the editor.

If one should stick to the important issues, Mr. Turner has had to defend himself several times for budget issues of overspending and administration issues, both causing great concern by the county commissioners.

Walla Walla, I am smelling a rotten egg, and it is not Tom Cooper!

Patrol car reportedly caused bad knee... Buys old patrol car and drives everyday for campaign. I smell something, but it isn't eggs.

I believe a tax paying citizen who will be paying the Sheriff's salary has the right to question the abilities of candidates for the position. We all should be getting detailed answers to that question.

During the debate (by Chamber of commerce) Mr Cooper was specifically if he was fit for duty, he evaded the question. It is a very honest and legitimate concern. Is he fit for duty or not? If so why has he not worked for two years now?

Did you know Turner has a bad back and is he fit for duty? Why don't you ask Cooper yourself about his knee? I did and got the real story not the rhetoric that Turner is putting out.

Totally agree with this letter. It was unnecessary and slander. It had no place in the Union Bulletin.

And a bad shoulder which Turner has claimed to have needed surgery since the first election. Turner reportedly said he did not want to make public because he didn't wabt to appear as if he weren't fit for duty. Still hasnt had surgery. Turner either told yet another lie or a bum shoulder isnt an impeding factor in being Sheriff.

The difference is if Cooper can work why isn't he at the office job he was offered? Turner IS working.

Cooper claims he was injured getting out of a patrol car THEN buys a used patrol car to get in and out of while campaigning. Sounds fishy to me.

mythoughts~Your statement is false because it is not complete. Why are you hesitant to call Cooper? This is a typical Turner, ~ never tell the whole story or change it to make him look better~. It's all about Turner. Cooper is ready to work and it is Turner that is keeping him from working. Call Cooper and get the real story!

Why doesn't Cooper put his "real story" on his website? I shouldn't have to call him personally to hear his version, this has become a major issue in this campaign and so it should be available to everyone.

If Cooper is afraid to put his story on his website then he's hiding something. I'm don't need to call someone to find out why they won't put it on the website. That's dumb

Call Cooper and get the "real story" that's funny.

Please tell me. What part of my statement is not true.

Right CaptainWW typical cooper supporter. No details.

2

CaptainWW 1 year ago

You won't call Cooper for details. Why should I give you any? Not my story to tell.

1

carcrazy 1 year ago

No, but Cooper should tell his story to all of us. He needs to put it on his website!

Cooper either has a good explanation for his extended time off or he doesn't.

So far, I haven't heard it.

If he doesn't care enough to inform voters about a key question before he's sheriff, I'm pretty sure I don't that attitude in the sheriff's office .

What bothers me is that he's on "leave" "light duty" because of some injury, however, he looks like he's in quite good shape - working out at the ACE of Clubs. So, if he can't work because of an injury, then how is he going to be an effective Sheriff?

Looks like his knee doesn't hurt too bad - see him working out at the ACE of CLUBS all of the time.

Personally, I think he's taking advantage of the system. I agree with NewInWW and Carcrazy.

Also don't think you need to "call someone" to get the real story. Stories can get changed - remember the gossip game at parties. So, if he's really got a story to tell then he needs to put it in black and white for all to see. Feels like he is hiding something by not putting it on his website.

If anyone is playing politics it's Cooper - hiding things, just like the rest of the politicians.

While cooper is making public his personal medical info, we should also see Turner's personnel file in LA only he can release the real story about allegedly retiring after 16 years and then working as an atty for 2 years sounds suspicious to me And to those who expect cooper to return on light duty, Captain WW is right It's Turner that told Cooper to go home cuzthe office was fresh out of light duty and didnt expect any. Unless cooper would accept an offer of working at 1/2 his salary and lose his Sgt stripes Turner has been out to get cooper from day one

But he collects disability and says its the car that made his knee hurt - but he works out and is in shape - seems to me he needs to quit collecting disability.

Sheriff John Turner worked full time as a police officer for 16 years then reserve police officer for 6 more years. THAT is the accurate information. Not just 16 years. Please post complete and accurate information.
