BAKER — The McLouglin Pioneer boys basketball team started off slow, falling behing 22-9 after the first quarter — battled back — and then eventually fell 53-41 at Baker in a Greater Oregon League Conference matchup Saturday.

The Pioneers held the Baker Bulldogs to just five points in the second quarter, scored 15 and were down by only three points at half.

The Bulldogs overwhelmed Mac-Hi again in the third to push the lead back to double digits going into the final quarter.

“We spent a lot of energy to get back into the game but unfortunately we just didn’t ahve a lot left to sustain the effort,” Mac-Hi coach Travis Chester said. “Baker had a big third quarter and that was pretty much the ball game, we missed some opportunities down the stretch and just couldn’t capitalize on the forced turnovers.”

The Pioneers’s Carlos Angel scored 11 points and Adrian Zaragoza had nine.

Mac-Hi (0-3 GOL) plays at Riverside in a non-league gameTuesday at 7:30 p.m.
