Letter - College Place School levy is not a new tax

As I sit at my computer, I reflect upon the word “education” and try to define the meaning and the importance of this word. I searched high and low and finally came to a definition that I feel fits where we are now in education.

It is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching.

I have worked as a teacher for the College Place School District for 11 years and I have been amazed at the support the citizens of College Place have shown throughout my teaching career. They have supported the College Place School District in passing a bond to rebuild Davis Elementary and build College Place High School.

It is coming that time every four years for us to ask for your support again for our levy. It is not a new tax to the community, it is a continuation of your support to the students of College Place Schools.

The levy supports programs for the district that include our highly capable program, transportation, students attending Wa-Hi, facilities maintenance, staffing above state-funded levels and other extracurricular activities.

Please remember that this is an expiring levy and not a new tax.
