Spartans hold off Indian boys

ROSALIA — Rosalia’s free throw shooting down the stretch proved to be the difference, as the Spartans downed Touchet 56-51 on Tuesday.

Rosalia hit 8 of its 12 free throw attempts in the final quarter, as Touchet could only manage three free throw attempts during the same stretch.

“We need to play defense when it’s time to play defense and we’re really not doing that,” Touchet coach Tim McKeown said. “It seems like there’s time we’re just stagnant and we’re letting them drive at the wrong times. A few times we had some defensive breakdowns where we didn’t know who we were guarding.”

The Spartans also nailed nine 3-pointers in the game, as Craig Nelson finished with a game-high 25 points including two treys. Colter McKeown and Ruben Butler each finished with a team-high 13 points for Touchet (10-7, 7-7 in Southeast 1B).

The Indians have dropped four straight games and will look to reverse that trend as they face Tekoa-Oakesdale on Friday.
