Whitman College’s Jasmine Campbell, who has completed her junior year with the Missionaries, is representing the Virgin Islands in alpine skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Campbell, who was born and raised in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, moved with her family to Sun Valley, Idaho, when she was 9. She was an avid skier until an injury in high school, and got back into the sport at Whitman.

Her father, John Campbell, represented the Virgin Islands in skiing at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.

Jasmine Campbell decided to take her senior year at Whitman off to train for Olympic qualification.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) confirmed her as meeting all qualification requirements to participate in Giant Slalom and Slalom events in the Winter Olympics late last month.

She is the lone athlete at the Winter Olympics from the Virgin Islands.
