BOARDMAN — The Mac-Hi boys basketball team could not rally after a slow start against Riverside on Tuesday.

The Pioneers got blanked in the first quarter, as the Pirates cruised to a 55-37 win.

“We came out tonight and missed some easy looks and couldn’t get the ball to go in the hoop,” Mac-Hi coach Travis Chester said. “We just dug too big a hole in the first half.”

Mac-Hi reversed its trend after halftime, outscoring Riverside 26-23 in the second half, but the Pirates’ advantage at the line proved to be the difference.

Jacob Podolski scored 13 points and nabbed seven rebounds for Mac-Hi.

The Pioneers are at Ontario on Saturday.
