RICHLAND — Touchet’s Cierra Jo McKeown dropped 33 points and 11 steals, as she led the Indians girls basketball team past Liberty Christian, 61-39, on Saturday.

Touchet’s game with Tekoa-Oakesdale on Friday was canceled due to inclement weather.

Against the Patriots, the Indians (10-9, 7-8 Southeast 1B) found themselves down 21-15 after the first period but responded in a big way in the second quarter. Touchet blanked Liberty Christian in the second while scoring 14 to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.

“We did not start well,” Touchet coach Missy McKeown said. “Defensively, we were just not playing well at all. The second quarter we switched to a zone and did much, much better.”

Touchet finished with 21 steals as a team and forced 25 Liberty Christian turnovers. McKeown said the steals led to a number of easy hoops in transition.

With the district tournament set to start Wednesday, the Indians game with Tekoa-Oakesdale will be rescheduled for either Monday or Tuesday, McKeown said.
