Letter - Media does not have a liberal bias

I am getting very tired of hearing about the so-called “biased liberal media.” It seems like every time our news outlets report on something and it doesn’t bode well for the Republicans, then they’re a bunch of pro-Democrat liberals.

Get over it folks, other than Fox News (clearly Republican) and MSNBC (clearly Democratic) there is no “biased liberal media.” They are only telling us what is happening.

I didn’t hear the Republicans complain when the media bombarded us for two months about how poorly Obamacare was doing or how botched up the Affordable Care Act website was.

I didn’t hear the Republicans complain when the media spent a month reporting on the so-called scandal at the IRS when it was “harassing” right wing “social welfare groups.”

I didn’t hear the Republicans complain when all we heard for a month was how the president’s administration caused the death of three Americans in Benghazi. But let them tell us about Chris Christie’s staffers causing chaos on the George Washington Bridge, then all of a sudden they are, according to Kathleen Parker (“Maybe Christie can survive,” Jan. 13), the “two-faced, pro-Democratic media.”

No Ms. Parker, they are not. They are just reporting the news.

Which leads me to one more rant before I close.

Don Wheeler (“What has our beloved nation turned into?” Our Readers’ Opinions, Jan. 12) wanted to know what the big deal was over causing people “to be late for slopping down biscuits and gravy.”

Well when public employees spend public money and use public facilities to slow down traffic, slow down commerce, effect local economies and potentially put people’s lives at risk for three days just to punish a political rival, it’s a very big deal.

Those people need to be investigated and if found guilty they need to be held accountable and made to pay for their misdeeds.

Well stated, sir. I would only suggest that there is a huge difference between how Fox/Murdoch media operates compared to MSNBC. The latter is absolutely driven by a more progressive and inclusive perspective in their editorials and commentary, yet is quick to recant and correct errors, and does a pretty good job at presenting a wide range of viewpoints. Take for example, “Morning Joe”, where the principal host is a former GOP congressman who is usually quite pragmatic.

Those attributes can hardly be said of what is well known as "Faux Noise", an organization with a well documented history of blatant lies and manufactured hysteria. They have a long history of photo manipulation, taking out full page adds promoting falsified statistics, for example regarding the size and attendance of Tea Party ‘protests’, misrepresented and manipulated video footage, and many, many attempts to create division and hatred amongst the citizenry.

Yes, MSNBC has made mistakes (as have all other news outlets), and they are honest about coming clean when that has been identified and confirmed. Hundreds of cases of falsification and fabrication are noted, here: link text whereas 15 are documented, here: link text Of course, neither of these summaries are intended to be all-conclusive, but it’s clear: there are few similarities between the two organizations. In fact, few similarities exist between Fox/Murdoch and the entire rest of the Fourth Estate. Of 26 major news sources ranked, the most left-leaning are NPR, The New York Times, ABC News, and CNN, the most centrist (agree with the ADA fifty percent of the time) are Anderson Cooper, CNN, Richard Bacon, and GMA, while the most right-leaning are Fox News, The Washington Times, US News, and the Chicago Tribune.

As you so correctly stated: just because the facts of a story indicate a more liberal or progressive reality, this does not imply the reporting of such is “liberal bias”.

The biggest problem is the concentration of media outlets into the hands of a very, very few "elite" powers that represent corporate interests, not those of the people.

If you don't have anything to offer besides your vile, myopic and ignorant viewpoint, suggesting that only "good 'murikans' have the right to vote - save us all the wasted energy of reading your blather and just fade away, ok?

Please - don't feed the trolls.

I like your advice re feeding trolls . . kinda wished you'd follow re our friend namvet60. Nothing anyone can say about him makes the point better than his own inane chatter.

I'm glad you enjoy.

Obviously your in the same category as a few that continously try to denigrate others posts. If you don't like 'em don't read 'em!

Thanks so much for validating blue_streak's point, with precision.

Folks, we just got a taste of the latest talking points for liberals. Watch how much you see the talking points (1) denying liberal bias by the media and (2) accusations that conservatives have a thin skin for pointing out the obvious that the major media is in fact biased toward liberalism.

Patriotism thrives on transparency and to date this Administration is making Richard Nixon look like a guardian angel.

Anytime any one of these scandals are solved and the proper people are punished the issue will be dropped. Until then look for the issues at hand to be handled in an appropriate fashion and the government should lose a number of top employees.

If your only news source is NPR and you do not watch anything that conflicts with your beliefs you may be a liberal redneck!
