Three Pomeroy wrestlers onto state

KITTITAS, Wash. — Three Pomeroy wrestlers earned state bids Saturday at the East Regional meet in Kittitas, with 160-pound senior Taylor Lewis leading the way with a third-place finish.

Also at 160, Wyatt Hyer placed fifth to take a state bid, as did Everett Stevenson with a fifth-place finish at 195.

Havin Heytvelt (145) and Adam Herres (152) each placed sixth and are alternates to state.

Lewis pinned one opponent and beat two others in lopsided decisions to take third place. His only loss came in the second round when he was pinned in 55 seconds by Milo Holston, a top-ranked senior from Liberty Bell who went on to win the bracket.

“Taylor is a great kid and his hard work has paid off,” Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said. “Besides the match he lost to champion Milo Holston Taylor, (he) dominated, he was a better technician and more physical than his opponents.”

The Mat Classic XXVI will take Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
