ST. JOHN — The Pomeroy girls basketball team ended its season with a 40-35 loss to St. John-Endicott on Tuesday.

The Pirates started the game hot, as they outscored the Eagles 12-4 during the first quarter. But Pomeroy could not sustain its strong play in the second half as the Pirates mustered only 13 points after halftime.

“We came out strong and did a good job defensively most of the game,” Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. “We created turnovers and capitalized on them during the first half. In the second half our shooting went cold. We had plenty of opportunities all the way down to the end, but just didn’t shoot well.”

Torri Koller led Pomeroy with 12 points and one 3-pointer. Mackenzie Monahan added six points and eight rebounds.

The Pirates finished the season 16-7.

“The girls played hard this season and improved a great deal,” Severs said.
