Walla Walla man pleads innocent to rape, assault charges

WALLA WALLA — A man pleaded innocent Monday afternoon in Superior Court to raping a woman at his residence this month.

Mikal F. Yasin, 38, of 512 E. Chestnut St., is set for trial April 8 and 9 on the charge of second-degree rape, in addition to second-degree assault.

Police said officers were called to the scene of the alleged sexual assault about 10:10 p.m. Feb. 13 after another resident reported hearing suspicious sounds coming from Yasin’s bedroom.

Officer Elias Joven could hear the woman crying and pleading with Yasin not to rape her, so kicked open the locked bedroom door, according to a police report filed in court.

After Yasin was handcuffed, he told police, “She changed her mind.”

The 18-year-old woman told police she and her boyfriend went to Yasin’s residence for a warm place to spend the night.

She said her boyfriend stayed outside and she and Yasin went into the bedroom. Then Yasin started choking her and forcibly raped her, the police report says.

Yasin was booked into the County Jail, with bail later set at $75,000.
