DAYTON — The Dayton girls basketball team’s ball movement and team play led the Bulldogs to a 46-35 win against Asotin on Saturday.

Dayton finished with 15 assists on 18 made field goals as Sarah Phillips led the Bulldogs with a game-high four assists.

“We could have executed a little better but when we did run our stuff and when we did execute it we did really well,” Dayton coach Clayton Strong said. “I thought our girls really shared the ball well together. It’s fun to see whenever you get a high assist-to-field goal ratio.”

Sidney Andrews was the recipient of a few of those assists as she scored 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Dayton’s defense also restricted the Panthers to only 14-of-55 shooting as Clayton called Saturday one of Dayton’s best defensive efforts.

“I thought we played really well as a team on defense,” Strong said. “We dealt with their ball screening well and we blocked out really well. It was the best we’ve blocked out all year.”

Dayton hosts Riverview on Tuesday.
