COLLEGE PLACE — A Saturday morning fire that killed a College Place man was apparently started by the victim, an official said today.
“Basically what we’re looking at is an intentionally set with multiple starts,” said John Boose, College Place Fire Department fire marshal.
The fire at 1867 S.E. Bliss Lane was reported about 9:30 a.m. and the homeowner, Andrey Gorkovchenko, 39, was discovered by firefighters in a front bedroom as they worked to control the blaze. An autopsy found Gorkovchenko died of smoke inhalation.
Boose said investigators believe fires had been started in the home’s garage, front living room and in the bedroom. Gorkovchenko’s motive is unknown at this time, he said.
No one else was in the home at the time of the fire, Boose said. A pet dog outside the home was unharmed, but a cat in the home also died in the fire.
