MILTON-FREEWATER — The McLoughlin High School boys basketball team fell behind 21-7 after the first quarter and could not recover, as Cove downed the Pioneers 54-46 on Friday.

“We came out flat tonight and Cove was ready from the get go,” Mac-Hi coach Travis Chester said. “They took advantage.”

The Pioneers fought back, as they outscored Cove in each of the subsequent quarters, but the first quarter proved to be the difference in the eight-point loss.

“It took awhile to get going again but the kids didn’t quit and fought hard to get back in the game,” Chester said.

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Hunter Yensen and Carlos Angel with 15 points apiece.

Mac-Hi (3-7 overall) hosts Waitsburg-Prescott at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
