Jan. 2, 1952 — Dec. 25, 2013
Nancy Lee (Shantie) Cox, 61, passed away on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2013, in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, where she had lived since 2006. Nancy was born Jan. 2, 1952, to Robert Lyman and Ida Mae (French) Shantie in Potsdam, N.Y. The family moved across New York and then the United States following her father’s iron work.
Nancy lived in Oroville, Calif., and then graduated high school with the Lewiston, class of 1970. She spent many years living in Dayton, Walla Walla and the Tri-Cities, where she raised three children. Nancy loved hummingbirds and had collected over a hundred of them. She enjoyed bingo games and even became a caller.
Nancy was the life of the party. Her smile and laughter were contagious. When she walked in a room, you knew it! Nancy had the gift of serving. She worked hard, lived life to the fullest and truly loved her family.
Nancy is survived by her children, of whom she was very proud; Barbie Stephenson and husband Bill of Oxford, Mich., Lori Adams of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Jeffrey Pounds of the Tri-Cities; grandchildren, Tanner Eldridge of San Francisco, Makinzie and Logan Muller of Oxford, Mich.; sister, Sally and husband Roger Ashby of Kennewick; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love her.
Nancy now joins her brothers, Thomas and David Shantie; parents, Ida and Bob Shantie; nephew, Tony Shantie; and loved ones whom she so dearly missed.
Her joy and sense of humor will forever remain in our hearts. We will celebrate her life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at The Living Room Community Church, 1409 S. Garfield St., Kennewick.
A light luncheon will be provided. Burial will be at the family plot in Pomeroy.
