In Loving Memory

Sandra D. Geissel

May 8, 1943 – January 4, 2014

Longtime Milton-Freewater resident, Sandra Dianne Geissel, 70, passed away January 4, 2014, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, 401 W. Poplar, Walla Walla, Washington.

Sandra was born May 8, 1943, in Prineville, Oregon, to Wilbur and Saretta Johnston Rustad. She attended elementary schools in Prineville. The family then moved to this area and she graduated from MacHi in 1961. Following high school she completed beauty school. On December 1, 1962, she and Leo C. Geissel, Jr. married in Milton-Freewater. They divorced in 1980.

A hair stylist and salon owner, Sandra owned Sandi’s Styling Parlour in Athena in the 1970s and later The Finishing Touch in Troutdale, Oregon. She also worked for several newspapers, including the WILLAMETTE WEEK and the Clackamas REVIEW; and was in the Advertising Department at the Gresham OUTLOOK in the 1980s. She also wrote freelance articles for some local newspapers. She later owned Mimi’s and More, a second-hand and antique shop in Milton-Freewater.

She was very family oriented; loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at Christmas when she enjoyed giving many gifts, whether purchased or handmade. She was crafty and had many hobbies. She enjoyed yard sales and antiquing. She conceived and founded the annual Kid’s Sale in Milton-Freewater, allowing children the chance to shop at Christmastime and have presents gift-wrapped to surprise their parents. She also loved animals and enjoyed having pets as companions. She used to make trips to the Blue Mountains with her family and mushroom hunt in the Spring or snowmobile in the Winter. She enjoyed the mountains, but adored the ocean and visiting the coast whenever she could with friends or family. She was an excellent cook and loved to provide delicious homemade meals for her family, always collecting and perfecting recipes. She will be dearly missed by all of her loved ones.

Sandi is survived by her daughter, Heidi Marvin; two sons: Chuck Geissel and Ken Geissel; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. Pastor Trevor Waybright will officiate.
