KENNEWICK — Wa-Hi’s girls basketball team ran its winning streak to nine games, raised its Mid-Columbia Conference record to 6-1 and its overall mark to 11-3 after sweeping a pair of league contests over the weekend.

The Blue Devils topped Kennewick on Saturday, 67-54, after beating Kamiakin at home on Friday, 56-47.

Wa-Hi has not lost since bowing to league-leading Chiawana on Dec. 20.

Mikayla Ferenz led the Blue Devils in scoring both nights. She tallied 29 points against Kennewick after a 22-point effort versus Kamiakin.

Maddy Sirmon scored 13 in Saturday’s game after a 12-point, 11-rebound effort on Friday.

“We came out a little flat,” Wa-Hi coach Jill Meliah said of Saturday’s tilt. “We may have been thinking about (Friday) night. Once we got going, I thought we were able to take control of the game.

“Defensively, we had stretches where our defense wasn’t great, but it was good enough and that is all you can ask for,” Meliah said.

Meliah described Friday’s win over Kamiakin as the “best all-around game we’ve played all season.”

Wa-Hi hosts Southridge on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
