In the spirit of the Olympics in Sochi this winter, Seattle CityClub will honor five Washingtonians with “gold medals” through the Jefferson Awards for Public Service.

This prize for public service awards people who make a difference in their community, our nation and the world through their jobs or volunteer service.

Washingtonians are encouraged to nominate volunteer champions for the 2014 Washington State Jefferson Awards, a national recognition established in 1972 by the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Sen. Robert Taft Jr. The award recognizes all-star but “unsung” heroes each year who demonstrate the highest ideals and achievements of community service.

Winners will be judged by a panel of community leaders and they will be formally recognized at a special reception in April. Winners will receive gifted consultation services provided by Wimmer Solutions to help them enhance their community service projects. One winner will be selected to represent our state at the national ceremonies in Washington D.C.

Visit CityClub online to nominate your local hero. Nomination materials must be received by CityClub no later than 11:59 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28.

The 2014 Washington State Jefferson Awards are sponsored by Seattle CityClub, Microsoft, Safeco Insurance, Starbucks and Wimmer Solutions.
