Carol M. Ward

December 25, 1932 – January 14, 2014

Longtime area resident Carol Mae Oliver Ward, 81, passed away January 14, 2014, at

Park Manor Rehabilitation Center.

Carol was born December 25, 1932, in Grants Pass, Oregon, to Joseph Paul and Hazel Vesta Kruse Oliver.

She attended schools in Oregon and Washington, graduating from Columbia Adventist Academy in Battle Ground,

Washington. On November 23, 1950, she and Ben Ward were married in Olympia, Washington. They moved to this area in 1958 from Lyle, Washington. She obtained her real estate and broker licenses and worked for Wasser Agency in College Place. She and her husband built Beeline Auto

Center in 1961 and she handled all the bookkeeping of the business from 1961 to 2006.

She was the matriarch of the “Ward Family Singers” and

wrote several songs during her years with them. She taught

herself and loved to play the string bass. Every grandchild

knew they were her favorite. Her love and devotion to her

family defined her. She was a wonderful seamstress and did

tailoring for her family. She loved to travel and had many

hobbies and interest. She was a member of an “Old Time”

music group and the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church

where she sang in the church choir for many years.

Carol is survived by her husband, Ben, at their home;

daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Randy Pflugrad of

Spokane, Washington; two sons and daughters-in-law: Dan

and Doneva Ward of Vancouver, Washington and David and

Linda Ward of Loveland, Colorado; two sisters: June Hedgepath

of Auburn, Washington and Betty Rosenquist of Loma Linda,

California; one brother, Joseph Oliver of Pasadena, California;

six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces

and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and

one brother, John Oliver.

Family and friends may pay their respects from

11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2014, at Mountain

View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla

Walla, Washington. The funeral service to which all are

welcome will be 11:00 a.m., Sunday, January 26, 2014, at

the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12th and Larch

Streets, College Place, Washington. Pastor Steve Walikonis

will officiate. Burial will be private in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s

choice through the funeral home.
