LA GRANDE — The McLoughlin High School girls basketball team dropped its Greater Oregon League opener to La Grande, 63-25, on Tuesday.

The Pioneers trailed by only five after the first quarter, but the Tigers outscored Mac-Hi 50-17 over the remaining three quarters of play.

Mac-Hi head coach Todd Cunnington said the Pioneers had trouble executing their offense, which led to 18 turnovers.

“I was really proud of how hard everyone on the team worked, even when we got down,” Cunnington said. “We didn’t fully execute the fundamentals of making good passes, securing the ball, and converting our shots into points. We’ll continue to work on those aspects and make improvements.”

Shannon Carter finished a team-high 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting for Mac-Hi.

La Grande had three players finish in double figures.

Mac-Hi hosts Ontario on Saturday.
