Walla Walla chef to compete for American Culinary Federation award

Walla Walla chef Antonio Campolio will have a chance to compete for the prestigious Chef of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American Culinary Federation.

Campolio, executive chef at The Marc Restaurant in the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center, has been chosen to compete in the ACF’s Western Semi-Finals in Oakland, Calif. The competition sizzles March 2-5. Campolio is one of 12 semi-finalists chosen to compete, according to a post from the hotel.

If selected to advance, he will travel to Kansas City, Mo., in July. Regional winners compete at a national convention, where a panel of judges selects the winner.

The Chef of the Year Award was created by the ACF in 1963 as an acknowledgement of chef Walter Roth, as recognition of his tireless work to promote the profession. The award recognizes an outstanding culinarian who works and cooks in a full-service dining facility, demonstrating the highest standard of culinary skills and advancing cuisine while also giving back professional to the development of students and apprentices.
