The former produce program director for Chicago’s Feeding America has joined the team at Walla Walla’s Columbia Fresh Produce.
As the new director of business development and marketing, Rick Bella will assist in the business development and marketing of the company’s hunger relief fresh produce division, according to an announcement from Columbia Fresh President and Chief Executive Officer Dewight Hall.
Part of Bella’s role will be assisting in the development of fresh produce programs with hunger relief organizations across the country.
An 30-year industry veteran, Bella spent 12 years with hunger relief at Feeding America and Oklahoma City-based Feed the Children. He joined the former in 1999, when the fresh produce program initiative began, the announcement explained. Over the next decade, fresh produce became the top food commodity, distributed through a network of more than 200 food banks and providing more than 100 million pounds of produce each year.
His experience also includes positions at the Midland Grocery in Westville, Ind. That company was a division of Roundy’s Grocers. He was also director of produce, deli and bakery operations at Chicago-based supermarket chain Fairplay Finer Foods.
