ASOTIN — The Walla Walla Valley Academy girls basketball team raced out to an early lead but could not sustain the momentum as Asotin rallied for a 61-30 win on Tuesday.

The Knights held a 11-2 lead on the strength of back-to-back 3-pointers by Hannah Woolever and Amy Arnzen, but the Panthers promptly responded with a 20-3 run to close the first half.

“It was a lot better than when we played them down here,” WWVA coach Lloyd Redburg said referring to Asotin’s 50-19 win at WWVA. “I saw a lot of improvement.”

Woolever led WWVA with nine points and Arnzen added five.

WWVA faces DeSales on Thursday. Redburg said the Knights will use the game as a way to prepare for next Wednesday’s Southeast 2B play-in game.

“We’ve had a rough time with DeSales so we’re going to approach it as an opportunity to improve and execute those things we’ve worked on,” Redburg said. “We’re just going to have to play well on both ends of the court.”
