Hey, blues fans! Walla Walla has its own locally produced and broadcast show, aptly dubbed Blues Therapy.
Blues Hall of Fame® Great Blues DJs “Biggdaddy” Ray Hansen and Armand “The Doctor” Parada recently moved to a new radio station. They’ve hosted the show from 7-9 p.m. Sundays on 106.9 BOB FM since June 8. The increased wattage shoots their music all the way to most areas of the Tri-Cities, Ray said.
The program is syndicated and rebroadcast four times per week on Internet radio station KCOR, www.kconlneradio.com, in Kansas City.
After a decade playing rock and blues on KWCW 90.5 FM at Whitman College, they had to find a new home following Whitman’s decision to shutter the station’s doors over the summer until Sept. 1.
With the move, “we’ve had a great response from new listeners and sponsors have come forward to support us,” Ray said of their relocation at BOB FM.
Their concern with the transition was losing listeners because of a long break — “especially if listeners don’t know the break is temporary,” Ray said.
“Blues Therapy Radio is one of the shows (on KWCW) that drew a large number of listeners via live stream. I know there are blues fans out there that are missing out because they aren’t aware that we have a show just for them.”
Nine times in 10 years, the guys have been Spokane’s Inland Empire Blues Awards Best Blues Radio Show runners-up, Ray said.
“We actually consider it a great accomplishment to be in the final three because all other shows in the competition have been Spokane-area shows, lol,” Ray emailed. “KCOR tells me we have a couple hundred steady listeners online and that includes domestic and foreign listeners.
Ray and Armand plan their music lineup ahead and bring recordings with them to the station each week. Early requests and dedications are welcome via Ray’s email, email@example.com, or on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Bluestherapyradio.
“We are serviced by some of the top blues record companies and agents as well as accepting direct submissions from indie artists. We also often play music from local artists, regardless of genre, to help them,” he added.
BOB FM can be heard online at www.bobfmwallawalla.com. Submissions may be sent to Blues Therapy Radio, 1955 Hilbrooke Drive, Walla Walla WA 99362.
