SAN DIEGO — The Northwest Xplosion girls fastpitch team won its first game in pool play at the ASA 14U National Championships, 3-1, over the SoCal Pumas on Tuesday.

Xplosion was led in the circle by Kamryn Coleman, who gave up one hit in the six-inning ballgame.

Xplosion scored its first run in the second inning on a but single by Teisha Payne, and in the fourth inning, Emma Case laid down a bunt on a suicide squeeze that scored Faith Hoe from third to put Xplosion up 2-0.

Xplosion added a run in the top of the fifth on a single by Ashlee Vadala.

The Pumas got their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, and Xplosion led 3-1 headed into the final inning, the sixth, due to the time limit.

Xplosion did not score in the top of the sixth, but retired the Pumas in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory, 3-1.

Xplosion play the East Cobb Bullets out of Georgia at 11 a.m. today.
