The 11th annual Sean Vandenberg Memorial Ride on June 29 will raise funds to grant wishes to seriously ill or injured children in the Walla Walla Valley through Children’s Wishes and Dreams. Proceeds also go to an annual scholarship for a Touchet High School graduate.
Peggie Vandenberg, ride organizer and president of Children’s Wishes and Dreams, said they will provide a wish to a 6-year-old child newly diagnosed with leukemia. Along with a barbecue, DJLotek will provide music.
The annual ride is in memory of Peggie and Tom Vandenberg’s son, Sean, who died of cancer in 2001. He loved motorcycles and received one through a local wish-granting organization in 1993.
Everything will take place in Touchet School Park. The ride and cruise will start between 9-10 a.m. The barbecue lunch at 1 p.m. is $10 per person and $5 for children younger than 12. Those 18 and older may participate in the poker run, which is $5 per hand. Registration is the day of the event.
All types of vehicles are encouraged, Peggie said, including motorcycles and old Volkswagens. Those not interested in participating in the drive are invited to listen to music and enjoy the lunch.
