KENNEWICK — The Walla Walla Bruins remained undefeated this season as they pulled out a 9-8 victory in 10 innings of Central Washington American Legion AA play over the Kennewick Dusters on Sunday.
The Bruins are now 9-0 in league play, 13-0 overall, and host the Asotin County Blues at 3 p.m. Friday at Murr Field.
“It was a pretty intense game,” Bruins coach Jason Parsons said. “We thought we had them put away twice, and for them to come back twice and us not give in, that’s pretty pleasing.”
Walla Walla jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, with the Dusters pulling to within 5-4 after six. They answered the Bruins’ three-spot in the eighth with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it up.
In the top of the eighth, Blake McKinney drew a five-pitch walk to lead off the inning, and Reid Magnaghi sacrificed McKinney to second.
Logan Cordeiro then smacked a double into the right-center field gap to score McKinney for what turned out to be the winning run.
McKinney then took the mound in the bottom of the 10th and shut down the Dusters, striking out the final two batters to secure the victory.
“Once we got the lead we had our confidence back,” Parsons said. “We’re still playing with quite a bit of confidence. And Logan Cordeiro continues to swing a hot bat for us.”
