WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Bears defeated the Central Oregon Bucks, 11-3, on Tuesday at Walla Walla Community College.
Six different pitchers combined to limit a Bucks lineup to only four hits.
Adam Eskil led the Bears offense with three hits, including a double and an RBI-single to left field in the second inning to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
“Adam is hitting the ball really well and putting together quality at-bats for us,” said Bears head coach Brian Kitamura. “He’s getting better and better every day.”
Central Oregon got on the board in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Bears by following it with back-to-back singles to make it a 2-1 contest.
In the sixth, Walla Walla cracked the game open. Run-producing singles from Daniel Lake, Colby Watilo and Conner Bryant added to a six-run inning and helped extend the lead to 8-1.
Eskil struck again in the seventh with another RBI-single, and Robi Novak drilled a fastball down the left-field line for a double in the eighth to plate two more and make it 11-3.
Kitamura said the Bears got a quality win in a total team effort, as the same Bucks played the West Coast League’s Walla Walla Sweets tight the previous night before giving up a couple runs late in a 5-3 loss.
“We came through in key situations and did what we needed to do to get a good win over a very good ball club,” said Kitamura. “We’re making good strides individually and as a team. It will be exciting when everything we have been working on fully translates into game situations and we take our game to the next level.”
Walla Walla moves to 10-4 on the season and prepares for the Bandit Bash Tournament in Tri-Cities, which features many of the top teams from the region.
The Bears begin pool play on Friday with a doubleheader against the Spokane Expos and Caldwell Silverstreaks.
