Letter - Guns today only good for murdering people

Guns don’t kill people — bullets do.

Ten thousand times a year people in America are murdered by guns. In the civilized countries of the world only a few dozen or maybe even just a handful are gunned down every year.

Are Americans a thousand times more likely to be homicidal maniacs than people in other countries? Maybe; but that is another story.

The difference is — based upon the Second Amendment to the Constitution — millions more Americans buy murder toys than anyone else in the world.

I won’t argue about hunting for food.

Most of the guns people buy today are only good for murdering people. Many are machine guns that are supposedly not machine guns because you have to pull the trigger every time you want someone to die.

What are the first four words of the Second Amendment? “A well-regulated militia.”

Well, a well-regulated militia does not murder its own children.

I'd posit that guns haven't changed much at all in over a century, only people's perception of them. Yes, guns are a very good tool for murder, just as they are good for killing: that is their purpose. I fail to see what the author is trying to say other than guns are good at firing high-velocity projectiles that wound and kill-that is the very reason the they are highly sought after tools...by both maniacs and normal people.

Chicoli, You can join the rest of the idiots that think this way, as I have said before the people that are going to kill a person will use whatever means necessary to do so even a frying pan!! Most of the guns people buy today are only good for murdering people, really!! No, most of the guns built today are for sport shooting and hunting. That’s like saying cars are built to hit people in the cross walks. Yes I am pro-gun, I think that is obvious, but I am against ignorant people thinking that it’s the gun or the “bullet” that is doing the killing. Look at other countries that do not have guns, what do the murdering people of that country use to kill their victims? Is murder ever going to stop? No!! But if you want to take the guns and do not want to own a gun than that is you’re ignorance shining through. When it comes down to it what are you going to do to protect yourself if you ever have to? A rock? Good luck the guy who has no regard to law has a bullet thrower. So you keep on hating guns and bashing people who own them and use them for what they are intended to be used for and not hate the murdering a$$ holes that give every law abiding gun owner a bad name, one of these days that law abiding POS gun owner might just save your life.

Cowboy, the the Supreme Court Heller interpretation of the second amendment is the law of the land, and all of us need to respect it. But it also gives margin for reasonable guidance for their safe handling. I presume you're a responsible citizen. Just to give one example of how crazy the NRA leadership, and the gun industry is, if a Doctor counsels the family of an Alzheimer patient's access to guns, the NRA opposes such life saving measure as it is anti second amendment. Pediatrician are under the same pressure, when it comes to counseling about gun safety at home.

So this silly arguments about us hating guns and other even sillier are a bunch of red hearings.

Having said that I invite you to read the Supreme Court Heller decision by Justice Antonin Scalia ( hardly a liberal) to calm down your gung-ho, Hopalong Cassidy hubris about guns. After all you're a responsible gun owner, my friend!

I wish you'd quit making up stories about the NRA and its positions. You don't know what you're talking about.

  2. Getting the facts straight about gun violence and mental illness: putting compassion before fear. by Fisher and Liberman, both of them MDs. These articles appeared in the Annals of Internal Medicine , 17 September, 2013. While at it read the references as well. It will be an eye opener for many.

Please read Justice Scalia, a hard core right winger, interpretation of the second amendment! You'll be surprise about what he has to say.

I am not talking about the supreme court nor the NRA I am responding to this letter in which it states false and idiotic statements. If someone David Higgins would do his research before sending a letter such as this one, I would not be posting anything at all.

That ridiculous letter doesn't really deserve a response but some people live in their little bubble and there is nothing sane people can do about it.

It is truly amazing to see there are people who believe that the shape, function and color of an gun automatically turns the user into killers!

Amazing logic!
