Letter - Leave our flag alone

Once again our flag has come under attack, and was upheld by a judge, saying the display of the American flag was offending Mexican students.

This is the United States, that is our flag, a symbol of this great nation and what we stand for.

Perhaps we ought to ban the display of the Mexican flag, the Iranian flag and all the flags at the United Nations building in New York, leaving only the flags of the United States, Great Britain, Canada and Israel.

Too many men and women fought and died for our flag. To ban the display of our flag is a direct slap in the face to all who served under that flag, died and came home wrapped in its love..

"A California school that stopped students from wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo didn’t violate their constitutional rights, an appeals court ruled Thursday.

"The school’s approach, according to the appeals court, kept students safe in a climate of racial tension." http://fox8.com/2014/02/28/court-school-had-rights-to-ban-u-s-flag-shirts-on-cinco-de-mayo/

The actual facts are slightly different than the implication of the letter that flying the US flag on a flagstaff was banned by a judge as offensive to "Mexican" students.

This is the USA, that is all states are represented by one star each on the American flag. The confederate flag, a symbol of hatred, racism and bigotry ought to be ban besides the great American flag we all love.

I see no implication in Mr. Bardsley's letter that indicate he was writing about the display of the US flag on a flagstaff (even though his allegorical example may have included flags on staffs). The gist of his letter was obviously about this school's policy of banning the wearing of a US flag on a T-shirt. I agree with him on that. Rather than banning any particular flag on a shirt, it would have been better for the school to warn all students that they will deal harshly with any students who threaten violance against any other students -- regardless of which flag they display on their clothing. IOW, target behavior rather than a flag display. As for the 9th Circuit Court decision, well ... does anyone really agree with all that court's decisions? Apparently not, as some 94% of their decisions have been reversed by the SCOTUS.
