Waitsburg-Prescott High School Cross Country athletes banded together to raise funds for Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center.

The students sold black-and-pink wristbands with the slogan “Got Pink?” embossed on them. The group voted on the color and slogan for the bands to promote breast cancer awareness, emailed Joanna Lanning.

They presented a $300 check to Mardi Hagerman, community resource coordinator for the Cancer Center.

Proceeds will be used by the Center’s Breast Cancer Special Needs Fund, which assists breast cancer patients with items such as prosthetic devices, wigs, housing, food, electrical bills, fuel, mileage — “Really, whatever the patient may have a need for,” Mardi said.

This is the second year W-P X-C athletes have sold wristbands as a fundraiser for the Center.
