NEWBERG, Ore. — The Whitman baseball team dropped a doubleheader to George Fox on Saturday.
The Missionaries fell 9-3 in game one, before losing 2-1 in the nightcap.
In the second game, Whitman evened the score at one in the top of the eighth inning after Aaron Cohen brought in Jimmy Madden with an RBI single. But George Fox responded in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single to score the deciding run.
Whitman starter Brett Lambert went seven innings, allowing one unearned run on eight hits. He struck out 10 Bruins. George Fox starter Ian Buckles went 7 1-3 innings and also struck out 10 while allowing one earned run.
In game one, George Fox jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning. Whitman put up a one-spot in the fifth, but the Bruins added to their lead in the bottom of the frame.
The Missionaries could only muster five hits against Bruin starter Clay Gartner, as he threw eight innings of one-run ball.
Whitman will look for revenge, as they play one more against George Fox at noon today.
