CLARKSTON, Wash. — The Pomeroy boys golf team claimed first place in a four-squad match here Tuesday at the Quail Ridge Golf Course.
Led by Riley Bott’s 5-over-par 41 for nine holes, the Pirates posted a 222 team score for its top five players. Host Asotin shot 245, St. John-Endicott scored 318 and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia entered an incomplete team.
Asotin’s Jake Gosse was the tournament medalist with a 4-over-par 40.
Bott finished alone in second place and teammate Devon Caruso tied for third place with a 42. Pomeroy’s Jacob Tewalt placed fifth with a 44, Tyson Feider was sixth with a 47 and Seth Hyer took seventh with a 48 in the field of 18. Spencer Craigie shot a non-counting 63 for the Pirates.
Teresa Meyers, Pomeroy’s lone entry in a field of eight girls, claimed medalist honors with a 47.
Temperatures were in the low 60s with a gentle breeze, according to Pomeroy coach Jim Greene.
“Pretty nice golf weather,” Greene said. “And the course was in pretty good shape for this early in the season.”
Pomeroy is off until April 12 when it travels to Tekoa for another nine-hole match against the same three teams.
