LEWISTON — The Waitsburg-Prescott softball team clubbed 25 hits in its doubleheader against Garfield-Palouse, but W-P could not capitalize as the Vikings won both games.
Gar-Pal opened the day with a 7-6 win in game one before scoring three runs in the seventh inning to post an 8-7 win in the second game.
In the nightcap, W-P jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the top of the third inning, as the W-P offense routinely advanced runners. But Gar-Pal slowly chipped away at the lead, as the Vikings scored three runs in the sixth inning to make it a 6-5 game. After W-P posted a run in the top of the seventh, Gar-Pal put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the frame to grab the victory.
“We got off to a good start and continued hitting the ball really well,” W-P coach Angie Potts said. “Our defense did a great job in the field making plays. In the bottom of the seventh, Gar-Pal put a together a few base hits to take the win.”
