WALLA WALLA — Both of Walla Walla High School’s starting pitchers, Ellie Rassbach and Brandi Schoessler, retired the first nine batters they faced to set the tone of a softball doubleheader against Pasco here Friday at Murr Field.
From there, the two Blue Devil hurlers let their offense take over, as Wa-Hi swept Pasco, 11-1 and 24-1.
In game one, Rassbach struck out seven of the first nine batters, and ended up giving up only one hit in the five-inning triumph.
Schoessler, in the night cap, was handed a 15-0 lead after one inning and she cruised the rest of the way to give up only two hits.
Rassbach struck out eight and walked three. Schoessler struck out five and walked none.
“Yeah, they (our pitchers) did a great job tonight,” Wa-Hi coach Kate Keyes said. “They took care of business. They threw solid games all the way around. Both pitchers did a great job.”
The most impressive Blue Devil rally was the first inning of game two, where they slugged 15 runs on 15 hits.
“It was comparable to one of the innings we had against Kennewick,” Keyes said of the opening inning. “We scored 12 or 13 runs against Kennewick as well. Stringing the hits together and getting that many runs in one inning — that is pretty much the best you can ask for.”
Jacie McDaniels led the charge in game two’s first-inning rally. She laced two doubles in the frame and brought in three runs. Jordana Storm and Schoessler also got in on the action, as they each had an RBI double and a single in the first.
McDaniels added to her impressive day with a grand slam in the third inning of game two. Storm and McDaniels both finished with four hits in the game. Rassbach added three and a hit-by-pitch and Schoessler also chipped in three hits, including two RBIs and a double.
In game one, Rassbach came up with a bases-loaded triple into the left field gap in the third innings. Rassbach finished the opener with a triple, walk and a hit-by-pitch.
Storm tallied three hits, including a triple, with two RBIs in game one. McDaniels smacked two hits with an RBI and Kate Ferenz contributed the same line.
The Blue Devils (8-4 MCC) conclude the regular season Friday with a twin bill against Hanford.
