PASCO — Walla Walla High School closed out its regular season by scoring 22 runs and pounding out 27 hits here Friday in Mid Columbia Conference baseball action. The Blue Devils cruised to 12-2 and 10-3 wins to sweep Pasco.
Game one was the tale of the big inning. Wa-Hi clung to a 1-0 lead after three and erupted for 10 runs in the fourth.
Zac Zehner and Kal Gray keyed the uprising as both contributed two-run singles.
That was more than enough for Blue Devil pitcher Ryan Kimball. Kimball went all five innings, as the Blue Devils ended this one via the 10-run rule, and only gave up three hits and no earned runs.
Gray, with three hits, led the 14-hit Blue Devil offensive attack. Zehner, Spencer Locati, David Pontarolo and Kimball each chipped in two.
It was deuces wild in game two. Wa-Hi produced deuces in each inning except the first and fifth. Zehner, on the hill for Wa-Hi, went six before giving way to Wyatt Taylor to finish off the six-hitter.
Nine different Blue Devils got hits in the 13-hit Wa-Hi attack. Ali Buentello led the way with three hits. Blake McKinney and Locati also had multiple hit games as they got two hits each.
Wa-Hi ends the regular season with a 10-4 MCC mark, 15-5 overall. The Blue Devils, thanks to a Richland-Chiawana split on Friday, earn the No. 1 seed to the 4A District Tournament and will host the tournament at Murr Sports Complex Saturday.
“We took care of business on the road,” Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said. “We got help from Chiawana. We are excited to host Districts Saturday at Murr.”
