Touchet softball team sweeps Pirates

TOUCHET — Makayla Bishop pitched Touchet to an 11-1 victory over Pomeroy in the first game of a Southeast 1B District softball doubleheader here Tuesday, then did her part in leading a 12-hit parade as the Indians routed the Pirates 17-0 in the nightcap.

It was the Indians’ second doubleheader sweep in as many days — they clobbered Lacrosse-Washtucna 16-0 and 16-1 here Monday — and upped their season record to 10-6 and their league mark to 7-1.

“Makayla did a really good job,” Touchet coach Gary Dorman said of Bishop’s work in the circle in the first game. “She fanned six and walked just one, though we let her down a little bit with our defense.”

The Indians were guilty of five errors in the first game.

“She didn’t get discouraged,” Dorman said of Bishop. “She stayed with it and did a great job.”

Bishop and Harlie Schaeffer had three hits each for the Indians in the second game, and Jennifer Aceves contributed a pair of hits. Bishop stroked three singles, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs; Schaeffer had three singles, two RBIs and three runs scored; and Aceves collected a single, double and one RBI.

Schaeffer pitched the nightcap for the Indians. She allowed two hits, struck out one and walked three.

“And she had a whole lot of defense behind her,” Dorman said, noting that his team didn’t make an error in the second game. “It was a tale of two games.”

Cierra Joe McKeown and Maddie Fenton had two hits each for Touchet in the first game. McKeown drove in four runs and scored twice, Fenton had two RBIs and two runs scored, and Shelby Gould contributed a two-run single in the sixth inning.

The Indians will continue a busy week of league play Thursday when Liberty Christian comes to town for a 4 p.m. twin bill.
