MILTON-FREEWATER — The McLoughlin High School baseball team fell to Greater Oregon League foe, Baker, 15-3 and 8-4, in a twin bill here Wednesday.

The Pioneers led 2-1 after three innings of game two, but then surrendered three runs in top of the fourth.

Hunter Yensen pitched a complete game for the Pioneers. He struck out eight and walked four while hitting two batters.

He gave up a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, which extended the Baker lead to four and ice the game for the visitors.

In the first game, the Pioneers were down 6-0 after the first. Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said the defense did not help its pitching staff, as the Pioneers made five errors in the two games.

Garcia said Mac-Hi could have made it out of the first inning of the opener with only two runs allowed — had all the defensive plays been made.

Outside of defense, the Pioneer bats couldn’t muster enough run support.

“We had some opportunities to score additional runs, but we weren’t able to execute when needed to,” Garcia said. “That goes for both games. We would start the innings off fairly well, get a couple of runners on and not be able to get them to score. That hurt us throughout the day.”

The Pioneers plated seven runs and cracked 15 hits in the doubleheader. Blake Yensen led the charge with four hits — two in each game — and two RBIs. Vince Roff also rocketed four hits, including a double and two RBIs.

Both Cody Banek and Hunter Yensen added two hits and an RBI.

The Pioneers struck out 18 times and added seven walks.

Mac-Hi (1-9 GOL, 8-11 overall) travels to Ontario for a GOL finale doubleheader on May 17.
