Treasure Valley sweeps WWCC

ONTARIO — Walla Walla Community College’s baseball team just couldn’t get runners home as Treasure Valley swept an NWAACC East Region twin bill from the Warriors, 8-2 and 10-2.

The Warriors opened scoring with a second-inning run in both games, but the Chukars answered in the bottom of the inning and then took leads for good with four runs in the bottom of the third of each game.

“The story of today’s game was hitting with runners in scoring position,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said. “We were only 3-for-15 and they were a heck of a lot better than that.”

Treasure Valley also enjoyed two home runs in the first game, and five in the nightcap.

The Warriors’ JJ Robinson had their lone homer in the opener.

“They also took advantage of the 25 mph wind blowing straight out to left field a little more than we did,” Meliah said. “All but one of those home runs would have been routine fly balls on a normal day. That’s kind of the way the day went for us.”

The Warriors are now 17-9 in NWAACC East play, 26-10 overall, and they host Spokane at 1 p.m. Saturday.
